Talks with TGM / Hovory s TGM DVD
Synopsis
On that autumn day in 1928, two symbols of Czechoslovak democracy stand at their pinnacle, much like the entire country. The book, a year-long endeavor meant to introduce the nation to its president, is complete. Karel Čapek seeks out Masaryk in the gardens of Topolčianky Castle. He intends to offer him a portion of the fee for the book of their conversations, crafted for the 10th anniversary of the young Czechoslovak Republic. However, the president is not in good spirits, as his daughter has forbidden the publication of the book. This encounter won't be easy. While Čapek is in a hurry, he cannot ignore the situation and engages in a passionate debate. They discuss daughters, the world, politics and politicians, Czechs, love, and women. Masaryk reveals himself not only as the founding father and a cool textbook icon but as a flesh-and-blood man. Alongside his groundbreaking ideas and worldview, he unveils his prowess in high politics and even intrigue. He speaks, among other things, of his extramarital affair and rediscovered sexuality. The clash of two giants from different generations holds explosive potential, even though their only weapons are walking sticks and words.
