Synopsis
The story revolves around an antiquarian named Samek, who lives a bachelor's life and financially supports his housekeeper in raising her daughter, Máňa, who is training as a hairdresser in the countryside. Influenced by a matchmaker named Mudry, Samek decides to marry. Máňa returns to Prague and Samek, having not seen her for a long time, is charmed by her beauty. Máňa has the opportunity to get a good job, but lacks German language skills. Samek offers to teach her German during their walks together. During a German conversation in Petřín, Máňa catches the attention of an electrician, Vašek, who falls in love with her. Believing that Máňa doesn't speak Czech, he buys a German textbook to converse with her. Soon, the young couple confess their love to each other. Meanwhile, Samek plans to propose to Máňa, but she reveals her love for Vašek first and asks Samek to offer Vašek a job.
