Synopsis
Three short films based on the literary works of Peter Karvaš. They advocate for the right to private grief, critique the propagandistic lies published in newspapers, and address alcoholism in the workplace. These themes are interwoven with the proceedings of a fictional commission tasked with evaluating the sufficient critical content of an approved film. The feature-length debut by directors Peter Solan and František Žáček represents one of the first outcomes of the slight easing of tensions in the mid-1950s.
