Synopsis
Great Fairy Tale of Devil Matěj is an enchanting story about the pursuit of happiness, love, and especially the power of friendship that can overcome the schemes of hell. The tale revolves around Devil Matěj (M. Adamczyk), who is punished to fulfill the wishes of a poor young man, Ondra (Z. Piškula), until Ondra finds complete happiness. The story deepens when Ondra falls in love with Rézinka, a countess (K. Svarinská), and Matěj himself becomes enamored with the cook, Marjánka (H. Vagnerová). Adding to the complexity, a devious Baron (O. Sokol) is introduced, leading to a series of challenging and humorous events. The narrative weaves through Ondra's ambitious promise to build a castle overnight and his enlightening journey to find where true happiness lies, including a daring venture into hell itself, meeting Lucifer (F. Němec) and his aide Befelem (J. Langmajer).
