Synopsis
The story follows the life of Dr. Čeněk Dobeš, a decent and kind man who seems almost out of place in modern life. Despite being a conscientious doctor, he doesn't use his profession or calling for personal gain, unlike some of his colleagues from university or the hospital. Content with his life alongside his beautiful wife Zuzana, and unfortunately with his terrible mother-in-law, Marie Košvancová, in their 2+1 apartment in a panel building, he readily and at any time responds to the requests of anyone who rings their doorbell asking for his services. His humble modesty and willingness irritate his mother-in-law, who would prefer to have a "Doctor with a big D" as a son-in-law, meaning someone who is primarily a recognized personality and earns a lot of money, not serving anyone for free as Čeněk does. The story unfolds with a light comedic touch, showcasing the contrasts between Čeněk's altruistic approach to life and the more materialistic expectations of the society around him.
